The German low cost carrier Eurowings sees opportunities in the Swedish market and is expanding its range of destinations on offer from the Öresund region and Malmö with a new connection to the capital of Kosovo and the country’s biggest city, Pristina.

Eurowings, which is part of the Lufthansa Group, already serves Stockholm Arlanda and Göteborg Landvetter, and is now starting up operations at Malmö Airport as well. A number of international routes are back for the summer, and the number of direct routes and passengers is gradually on the rise at Malmö Airport. The number of passengers flying to Kosovo shows great growth in recent months, and the airline is expanding its offering of flights to the Balkan region, launching service to Pristina over the summer.

There are a large number of residents in southern Sweden and Skåne (Scania) in particular with relations in the Balkans, and people from Kosovo represent the third largest ethnic group with roots in south-eastern Europe in the Malmö region. 

Kosovo, with its central location in the Balkans, is considered to be a fantastic place for curious travellers to take a holiday and a leading destination for backpackers. A beautiful mountain landscape and historic cities with captivating architecture define the country, which has an important coffee culture and has developed its own niche as a coffee producer.

The whole Balkan region is a popular destination both for holiday-makers and for friends and family visiting from Malmö. Beginning June 28 and through mid-September, Eurowings will serve the Malmö Airport (MMX) – Priština International Airport (PRN) route twice weekly, on Mondays and Thursdays, with an A320 aircraft model. There is already one other operator on this route.
