SilkAir, the regional wing of Singapore Airlines, today launched its inaugural flight to Fuzhou, China. With this launch, SilkAir’s route network now spans 52 destinations in 14 countries. The combined Singapore Airlines and SilkAir network will serve a total of 11 Chinese cities.
The inaugural flight, MI990, departed this morning at 10.35am from Singapore Changi Airport and is expected to arrive at Fuzhou Changle International Airport at 3.05pm. The return flight, MI989, will take off at 4.15pm and is expected to land in Singapore at 9.00pm (all times local).
The four weekly flights to Fuzhou are scheduled on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, with same-day return. The services will be operated with Boeing 737-800 aircraft, featuring both business and economy class cabins.
To mark this special occasion, passengers on the first flight out of Singapore and Fuzhou were presented with exclusively produced SilkAir gifts, as well as inaugural flight certificates signed personally by SilkAir’s Chief Executive, Mr. Foo Chai Woo, and Commander of the flight, Captain Steve Tan.
Commenting on the launch, SilkAir’s Chief Executive, Mr. Foo Chai Woo said:

We hope that this would open up exciting opportunities for travellers between Fuzhou and Singapore, and also beyond these two major gateways. Fuzhou is famous for its sea views, mountains and historical sites and I am confident it will be a destination that will interest many Singaporeans. Likewise, Singapore offers various attractions that tourists from Fuzhou will definitely enjoy and find appeal in.”
As the capital and one of the largest cities in Fujian Province, Fuzhou is also known as the “city of banyans”, because of the numerous Banyan trees planted there. Fuzhou boasts of forest parks, historic temples, ancient-style architecture and old streets — a few noteworthy attractions include West Lake Park, Three Lanes and Seven Alleys, Pingtan Island and Xichan Temple.
Singapore promises to be an exciting experience for Fuzhou customers. They can enjoy a wide variety of attractions such as Universal Studios Singapore, Gardens by the Bay, and the famous Night Safari at the Singapore Zoological Gardens. Singapore also offers world class shopping along the famous Orchard Road, and exciting dining options around the city.
From now till 31 March 2017, Fuzhou customers who transit in Singapore onto another SilkAir or Singapore Airlines flight can enjoy S$40 Changi Dollar vouchers for use in the airport.
