We’re Swooning for Stockholm

Few European cities are as pretty or stylish, as Stockholm, Sweden. Among the high-rise buildings and the little wooden houses, through the narrow streets and over small bridges, you’ll discover the soul of Stockholm. Humble smiles wish you welcome, art encourages you to play and the city’s facades relate stories from hundreds of years ago. Stockholm is a place of contrasts. Trends in music, design, fashion and technology are born in this innovative city.

With a plethora of cultural haunts, several new restaurants and shopping districts galore, Stockholm has something for everyone. Have we piqued your interest yet? If not, here are 10 reasons to visit this magical city in 2016.

10 Reasons to Visit Stockholm

  1. Happiness. Sweden just garnered the #10 spot on the top 10 list of happiest places on earth.
  2. Midnight Sun. In the northernmost part of Sweden from May 27 — July 18, you can see the Midnight Sun.
  3. The Northern Lights. Between September and March in the northernmost part of Sweden, you can witness the Aurora Borealis phenomenon. During this time, you can see the fluttering and bright lights caused by energy from the sun being carried toward the Earth by solar winds.
  4. Everyone looks like Malin Akerman and Alexander Skarsgard. (OK, not really — but it was worth a shot.)
  5. Old Town. This is Stockholm’s original city center and you can find the Royal Palace, Storkyrkan, and Stortorget where Stockholm’s blood bath took place in 1520.
  6. Fashion! The Nordic Museum, Sweden’s largest museum of cultural history, is home to a permanent display of fashion from the museum’s collections from the mid-1700s through today.
  7. Mamma Mia — The Party! First came the musical. Then the movie. Now the party begins. Tyrol Gröna Lund has been converted into a Greek tavern where the audience is served Mediterranean fare and is treated to a variety of ABBA songs throughout the evening.
  8. Eurovision Song Contest. Stockholm is the host city for this year’s competition, and will feature a number of activities for two weeks in May at the Eurovision Village in the park Kungsträdgården.
  9. Stockholm is a great place to connect to more than 50 other destinations within Norwegian’s network.
  10. Norwegian has fares as low as $226 one-way (including taxes).

With Norwegian’s low fares and newly-expanded flight schedules from Fort Lauderdale, Los Angeles, New York and Oakland, you have several options to hit the shores of this Scandinavian city and let it engulf you in its charm.
